Frequently Asked Questions

Why does my Shree Lipi text show as English letters?
Shree Lipi is a non-Unicode font family. It stores Marathi and Hindi as English keyboard characters and only draws them as Devanagari when the Shree Lipi font is applied. Without the font you see text like "^maV" instead of "भारत". Converting to Unicode fixes this permanently.
Which Shree Lipi font does this support?
It follows the Shree-Dev-0714 layout, the most common Shree Lipi Devanagari font in Marathi offices, newspapers and DTP work. Other Shree Lipi fonts mostly share it for regular letters, but some conjuncts and symbols can differ and may need a manual fix.
Does it work for Hindi as well as Marathi?
Yes. Both are written in Devanagari, so the same conversion works for Marathi and Hindi text, including the Marathi ळ.
Are ि and र् placed correctly?
Yes. Shree Lipi types the short i matra (ि) before the consonant and the reph (र्) after the syllable. The converter moves both to their Unicode positions, so "pñWpV" becomes स्थिति and "Hm`©HŒ_" becomes कार्यक्रम.
Is my text uploaded anywhere?
No. The conversion runs entirely in your browser. It is free, needs no signup and has no text limit.
