Frequently Asked Questions

Why does the output look like English letters?
Shree Lipi is a non-Unicode font: it stores each Devanagari letter as an English keyboard character. The output only looks like Marathi or Hindi after you apply the Shree Lipi font to it.
Which Shree Lipi font should I use?
The output follows the Shree-Dev-0714 layout, the most common Shree Lipi Devanagari font. Apply Shree-Dev-0714 (or a Shree Lipi font with the same layout) to the pasted text.
Which software can I paste Shree Lipi text into?
Any program where you can choose the Shree Lipi font, such as PageMaker, CorelDRAW, InDesign, MS Word or Photoshop.
Are ि and र् placed the Shree Lipi way?
Yes. Unicode stores the short i matra (ि) after the consonant and the reph (र्) before it. The converter moves ि before the consonant cluster and the reph after the syllable, the way Shree Lipi expects, so स्थिति becomes "pñWpV" and कार्यक्रम becomes "Hm`©HŒ_".
Is my text uploaded anywhere?
No. The conversion runs entirely in your browser. It is free, needs no signup and has no text limit.
