Frequently Asked Questions
Why does my Bamini text show as English letters?
Bamini is a non-Unicode Tamil font. It stores Tamil as English keyboard characters and only draws them as Tamil when the Bamini font is applied. On a website, in WhatsApp or on a computer without the font, you see letters like "tzf;fk;" instead of "வணக்கம்". Converting to Unicode fixes this permanently.
Is this a Tamil font converter?
Yes. Bamini is the most common legacy Tamil font, especially in Sri Lankan Tamil documents, so converting Bamini to Unicode is what most people need from a Tamil font converter. Use the Unicode to Bamini converter for the opposite direction.
Are ெ, ே, ை, ொ, ோ and ௌ placed correctly?
Yes. Bamini types these vowel signs before the consonant. The converter moves them to their Unicode positions, so "nfhOk;G" becomes கொழும்பு and "Nfhapy;" becomes கோயில்.
Will the converted text work in Google Docs, email and websites?
Yes. Unicode is the standard used by every modern system, so the converted Tamil can be searched, shared and edited anywhere without installing any font.
Does it work for other Tamil fonts like Kalaham or Vanavil?
No. Each legacy Tamil font uses its own key mapping. This tool follows the Bamini mapping; text in another font will convert to the wrong letters.
Is my text uploaded anywhere?
No. The conversion runs entirely in your browser. It is free, needs no signup and has no text limit.
