About English to Bengali Translation
English to Bengali translation turns English text into Bengali (বাংলা), also called Bangla. It is an Indo-Aryan language with well over 200 million speakers, which places it among the most widely spoken languages in the world. Bengali is the national and official language of Bangladesh and an official language of the Indian states of West Bengal and Tripura. It is also spoken in Assam's Barak Valley, in Kolkata, Dhaka, and Chittagong, and by large diaspora communities in the UK, the USA, the Gulf countries, and Malaysia. International Mother Language Day on 21 February honours the 1952 Language Movement in Dhaka. Bengali is written in its own script, an abugida that runs left to right. Consonants carry an inherent vowel, vowel signs attach around them, and many conjunct letters join consonants together. The language has its own numerals (০ ১ ২ ৩ ৪ ৫ ৬ ৭ ৮ ৯), and the same script is used in Bangladesh and in West Bengal, with a closely related form used for Assamese. Bengali does not have grammatical gender, which makes verb forms simpler than in Hindi, but the verb does change with person and with the level of respect. Translating from English takes more than swapping words. Bengali puts the verb at the end of the sentence ("I am going home" becomes "আমি বাড়ি যাচ্ছি"), uses postpositions instead of prepositions, and attaches counting words such as টা, টি, and জন to nouns. English "you" has three Bengali forms: আপনি (apni, formal and respectful), তুমি (tumi, familiar), and তুই (tui, very informal or intimate). Using the wrong one can sound rude or oddly stiff, so a good English to Bengali translation has to match the situation. Vocabulary also differs by region: West Bengal commonly says জল for water and খিদে for hunger, while Bangladesh commonly says পানি and ক্ষুধা, and both are understood by all Bengali speakers. People use an English to Bengali converter to write to family, read school or bank notices, prepare shop and business content for Bengali customers, and learn the language. This free tool gives instant results with no signup. It is a machine translator, so for legal, immigration, medical, or other official documents, have a certified human translator review the result.
