About Bengali to Arabic Translation

Bengali to Arabic translation is used mainly by people heading to or working in the Arab world. Bengali has about 270 million speakers in West Bengal and Bangladesh and is written left to right in its own script, while Arabic, with about 380 million speakers, is written right to left in a cursive script where short vowels are usually left out. Millions of Bangladeshi and Bengali workers hold jobs in Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Kuwait, Qatar and Oman, and many more travel for Umrah and Hajj every year. They need quick lines for the workplace, visa offices, hospitals and the Haram. Bengali already borrows everyday words from Arabic through Persian and Islamic usage, such as কলম (qalam), খবর (khabar), হিসাব (hisab) and কিতাব (kitab), so some Arabic sounds will feel familiar.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do Bengali and Arabic use the same script?
No. Bengali (বাংলা) is written left to right and each consonant carries a built-in vowel. Arabic (العربية) is written right to left, letters join together, and short vowels are normally not written. So শুকরিয়া and شكرا look completely different even though both are used to say thank you.
Which Arabic sounds are hardest for Bengali speakers?
The throat sounds. ع ('ayn) is a deep sound from the throat, ح (ha) is a strong breathy h, and ق (qaf) is made further back than k. Bengali has none of these, so listen to a native speaker for words like عمل ('amal, work) and حاج (haajj, pilgrim).
Is the Arabic here Gulf Arabic or Modern Standard Arabic?
The phrases use Modern Standard Arabic, which is understood across the Gulf and in all Arab countries. Daily speech in the Gulf differs a little. For example, people may say شلونك (shlonak) instead of كيف حالك (kayfa haalak) for how are you.
Does Arabic use different words for men and women?
Yes. Arabic marks gender in verbs and in "you". The phrases here use the masculine form, such as كيف حالك (kayfa haalak). When speaking to a woman, say كيف حالك with a long final i sound, kayfa haalik, and a woman describing herself says أنا مريضة (ana mareeda) when ill.
Which Bengali words come from Arabic?
Quite a few, mostly through Persian and religious usage: কলম comes from قلم (qalam, pen), খবর from خبر (khabar, news), হিসাব from حساب (hisab, account) and কিতাব from كتاب (kitab, book). The meaning is often close, but the pronunciation in Arabic is sharper.
Is Bengali to Arabic translation free?
Yes, it is free, needs no signup and works in any phone or desktop browser.
