Frequently Asked Questions

Why does the output look like symbols?
Chanakya is a non-Unicode font: it stores each Hindi letter as a Latin or accented character. The output only looks like Hindi after you apply the Chanakya font to it in your DTP software or word processor.
Which software can I paste Chanakya text into?
Any program where you can choose the Chanakya font, such as PageMaker, CorelDRAW, InDesign, MS Word or Photoshop. Paste the text, select it and set the font to Chanakya.
Are ि and र् placed the Chanakya way?
Yes. Unicode stores the short i matra (ि) after the consonant and the reph (र्) before it. The converter moves ि before the consonant cluster and the reph after the syllable, the way Chanakya expects, so स्थिति becomes "çSÍçÌ" and कार्यक्रम becomes "·æØüR×".
What happens to numbers?
Hindi digits (०-९) become the keys 0-9, which the Chanakya font draws as Hindi digits. English digits are moved to the keys Chanakya uses for 0-9, so they still print as English digits.
Is my text uploaded anywhere?
No. The conversion runs entirely in your browser. It is free, needs no signup and has no text limit.
