About Spanish to Urdu Translation

Spanish to Urdu translation is needed by Urdu speakers living in Spain and Latin America, and by Spanish speakers who work with South Asian customers. Spanish has about 560 million speakers and uses the Latin alphabet, read left to right. Urdu, with about 230 million speakers in Pakistan and India, is written right to left in Nastaliq. Many Pakistanis live in Barcelona, Madrid and other Spanish cities, working in shops, restaurants and trade, and they often need help at clinics, pharmacies and offices. The histories overlap in a surprising way: Spanish has thousands of words from Arabic, and the Spanish ojalá (hopefully) comes from Arabic law sha Allah, close in meaning to Urdu ان شاء اللہ (inshaallah). Spanish ¿Cómo está usted? and Urdu آپ کیسے ہیں؟ also both have a polite form.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why do Spanish and Urdu share some words?
Because Arabic influenced both. Spanish ojalá comes from the Arabic for God willing, the same idea as Urdu ان شاء اللہ (inshaallah). Spanish hasta (until), azúcar (sugar) and aceite (oil) also come from Arabic, while Urdu has اللہ حافظ, کتاب and دنیا from the same source.
How different is Urdu word order from Spanish?
Spanish usually follows subject-verb-object, such as Necesito una receta. Urdu puts the verb at the end and uses postpositions after nouns, so مجھے نسخہ چاہیے (mujhe nuskha chahiye) literally says to me prescription is needed. Learn the pattern with one phrase and replace the noun.
Does the Urdu use polite or casual forms?
The Urdu uses the polite آپ (aap), which matches Spanish usted. Casual Urdu has تم (tum) and تو (tu), and Spanish has tú. Choose the polite form with shopkeepers, doctors and officials in both languages.
Is Hola translated as Assalam alaikum?
In this page yes, since السلام علیکم is the common greeting among Urdu speakers and the reply is وعلیکم السلام (wa alaikum assalam). In casual settings Urdu speakers also say ہیلو (hello), and non-Muslim speakers may say آداب (aadaab).
Is the Urdu text written with gender?
Some Urdu verbs and adjectives change for men and women, for example میں کام کرتا ہوں for a man and میں کام کرتی ہوں for a woman. The phrases here are written so they suit both wherever possible, and Spanish words like alérgico become alérgica for a woman.
Is Spanish to Urdu translation free?
Yes, it is free, needs no signup and works on any phone or desktop browser.
