About Hindi to Korean Translation

Hindi to Korean translation has grown fast in India thanks to K-dramas, K-pop and BTS, with fans in Delhi, Mumbai and especially the Northeast picking up words like "saranghae" and "daebak". Korean is spoken by about 80 million people in South and North Korea and is written in Hangul, an alphabet created in 1443 under King Sejong, in which letters are grouped into square syllable blocks. Beyond entertainment, Korean companies such as Samsung, Hyundai and LG employ thousands of Indians in Noida, Chennai and Bengaluru, and more Indian students now apply for scholarships and the TOPIK exam to study in Seoul. This page gives Revised Romanization for every phrase so Hindi speakers can say it correctly.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does "oppa" mean in Hindi?
"Oppa" (오빠) is what a girl calls an older brother or older male friend, close to "bhaiya" in Hindi. In K-dramas it is also used for a boyfriend. A boy says "hyeong" (형) for an older brother instead.
Why does Korean have two number systems?
Korean uses Sino-Korean numbers (il, i, sam) for dates, money, phone numbers and minutes, and native Korean numbers (hana, dul, set) for counting things, age and hours. This page lists Sino-Korean numbers because they are needed for prices and phone numbers.
Is Hangul hard to learn for Hindi speakers?
No. Hangul has 24 basic letters and most learners can read it in a few days. Like Devanagari, it is written phonetically, so once you know the letters you can sound out any word.
What is Revised Romanization?
It is the official system South Korea uses to write Korean in English letters, which is why you see "Gamsahamnida" and "Annyeonghaseyo". We use it for every pronunciation on this page.
Is "saranghae" polite to say to anyone?
No. "Saranghae" is informal and used with a partner, close friends or family. The polite form is "saranghaeyo", and with elders or strangers Koreans rarely say it at all.
Is Hindi to Korean translation free?
Yes, it is free with no signup and works on phones and computers. Use the swap button to translate Korean back to Hindi.
